NAVORD OP-769 — Configuration of the Three Gun Turrets, USS New Jersey

Naval Ordnance Pamphlet — 30 April 1968 Reactivation

NAVORD OP-769 is the complete naval ordnance pamphlet documenting the configuration of the three 16-inch triple gun turrets aboard USS New Jersey (BB-62) as prepared for the 30 April 1968 reactivation. The pamphlet is the authoritative technical reference for every mechanical and electrical system of the Iowa-class 16-inch/50-caliber gun turret, prepared specifically to support the recommissioning of New Jersey for service in the Vietnam War.

The nineteen chapters cover the full turret from structural and operational overview through the gun assemblies, slides, elevating and training gear, projectile and powder handling systems, fire control and sight assemblies, rangefinder mounts, electrical installations, auxiliary and hydraulic systems, lubrication, and tools. Four appendices provide general turret data, ordnance data, an index of assemblies, and safety precautions. The complete alphabetical index follows.

This document is split into three viewing parts for performance. Part 1 covers Chapters 1–5 (turret structure and elevating/training gear). Part 2 covers Chapters 6–10 (training gear through rammer). Part 3 covers Chapters 11–19 plus the appendices and index.
