By John D. Bennett — Coast Defense Journal, August 2006

This article by John D. Bennett, published in The Coast Defense Journal (Volume 20, Issue 3, August 2006, p. 50), presents the history of the Puu-O-Hulu Military Reservation on Oahu, Hawaii. Located on the leeward west coast at Puu-o-Hulu-Kai, an independent basalt mass of the extinct Waianae Volcano, the reservation served as a component of Oahu’s coastal defense network from 1923 through the end of World War II in 1945.
