USS Brinkley Bass DD-887

2250-Class Destroyer — DesDiv 52, DesRon 5
USS Brinkley Bass DD-887

The USS Brinkley Bass shown here is what we called a 2250-class destroyer. She is 396 feet 6½ inches long. Wartime complement is 336. Fully loaded at about 2,950 tons. She is about 36 feet longer than a Fletcher-class destroyer — we called the Fletcher a 2100-class destroyer, whose wartime complement was also about 336 men. The added 36 feet increased the cruising range of the 2250-class ships, as this was mostly used for fuel oil tanks. The speed of the 2250s was about 32 to 33 knots and the 2100-class was in the 36-knot range. Both ships had power plants of about 60,000 HP.

The Bass was flag for Destroyer Division 52, which was part of DesRon 5.
