By May 1945, the Battle of Okinawa was grinding through its bloodiest weeks, and every man in the Pacific Fleet knew the assault on the Japanese home islands was approaching. The Bureau of Naval Personnel’s All Hands Bulletin published “Here’s Your Enemy,” a direct briefing on the Japanese adversary covering the character, military organization, and fighting methods of the forces standing between the U.S. Navy and final victory. Understanding the enemy had been a recurring theme in the Bulletin throughout the war, and this feature gave sailors a clear picture of what they faced in the campaigns ahead.
