Principals of Naval Ordnance and Gunnery (NavPers 10783-B) is a US Navy training textbook providing a comprehensive survey of shipboard weapons systems. Part 1 (Chapters 1–7) covers the foundations: an introduction to naval weapons, shipboard weapons and weapon systems, the basic sciences underlying ordnance and gunnery, explosives and ammunition, guns and gun mounts and turrets, gun weapon systems, and detecting and assigning air targets. Part 2 (Chapters 8–15) covers gun battery alignment, naval gunfire support, aircraft armament, coastal riverine craft armament, underwater ordnance, antisubmarine warfare, organization and communications, and the duties of the junior weapons officer. Three appendixes cover glossaries, ballistic calculations, and ordnance safety precautions.
