Ordnance Pamphlet 1040 is the complete U.S. Navy technical manual for the Gun Sight Mark 14, a gyroscopic lead-computing gunsight developed for anti-aircraft fire control. The Mk 14 automatically computed the angular lead required to intercept a moving aerial target, greatly improving the accuracy of 40mm and 20mm antiaircraft guns. This manual covers the theoretical basis of the sight, its physical components, operating procedures, installation, detailed mechanical description, maintenance performance tests, checks and adjustments, training devices, and the companion Mk 15 variant.
